Not only will your new furnace heat your home better than the old worn-out unit you’ve been using, it’ll also save you quite a bit of money in energy costs. It is possible to DIY a new furnace install, but if you don’t have any experience working with gas, electricity, or with HVAC, we really recommend calling a qualified installer to do the job. However, if you’re dead set on doing it yourself or are just curious about what your installer will be doing, keep reading and we’ll show you what goes into installing a new gas Revolv furnace. We even have a video at the end that you can watch to help you visualize everything.

Step 1 – Remove the old Flue

Your new Revolv furnace is very likely going to have a different vent configuration than your old unit. Newer, high-efficiency furnaces typically vent through PVC pipe as they don’t put out very much heat to the atmosphere. Even if your old flue or roof jack assembly is the same type as the new furnace, you should still replace it as it could be damaged or leaking. We carry all the extra accessories you need, just give us a call and we’ll set you up with the right ones for your furnace.

Step 2 – Remove the old furnace

First, make sure that the power is cut to the furnace and that the gas is shut off. Next, remove all the screws that secure the furnace in the closet, and remove the wiring that supplies it power. Lastly, disconnect the gas line and make sure it is out of the way. Once you have the furnace disconnected, pull it out of the closet and get some help to take it outside. Recycle the furnace if you can, it can help you recoup some of the cost of the new unit.

Step 3 – Prepare the closet

Once the old unit is out, you should clean up any of the debris and dirt left behind and prepare the closet for your new Revolv furnace. It’s a good idea to use a shop-vac and clean up the duct and mounting surfaces for the furnace. This is also the time to reinforce the floor above the duct. Cut out the panel and secure it and the baseplate to the floor with some screws and mastic. Seal everything together with mastic and mesh tape.

Step 4 – Install the new vent and lines

Before you fill up the utility closet with the new furnace, install the new vent according to the manufacturer’s specifications. The vent tubes should extend above the snow line on the roof and have an elbow to keep rainwater out. Be sure to run the gas line and condensate line according to your local building code.

Step 5 – Install the new Revolv furnace

With some help, place the new furnace into the utility closet on top of the base plate. Hook up the gas supply using flex line and test for leaks. Connect the electrical supply and the thermostat wiring as well. If you need to, make a cut out in the door and install a grate for the air intake.

Step 6 – Test

Once installed, fire up the new Revolv furnace and let it run for about 5-10 minutes. Check the furnace for carbon monoxide emissions and make sure that they’re within spec. If carbon monoxide builds up within your home it can be dangerous or even deadly for your family.

Installing a new Revolv furnace is a great way to save some money on heating cost and keep your mobile home warmer in the winter. When working with gas, it’s imperative that the job is done right. If you’re inexperienced, we highly recommend that you call a professional to complete the installation of your new furnace.

So you’ve decided to replace your old gas furnace with a brand new Revolv furnace, that’s great!
