Don’t let insects and rodents ruin your vacation! We’ve compiled a list of tips that will help you prevent and control the most common pests you are likely to encounter in your travels.
- Most insects just annoy us, but many can cause health problems such as allergic reactions or infections or worse. Spray insect repellant around doors and windows. Dryer sheets left in cupboards will keep out spiders and other insects. Keep all food sealed in air tight bags or containers.
- Spray insect repellent around the tires and inside the basement compartments. It’s also a good idea to spray insect repellent on top and bottom of your awning, but be careful not to get any on the fabric itself.
- To enjoy a night by the campfire, it’s a good idea to set out a fogger early in the day around the camp area. This should keep the pests away for a while.
- Rodents only need a very small opening to get through so before you go on your trip take a moment to look underneath for holes and use caulk to fill them. Check around plumbing, drains and roof vents or anywhere else you think a small rodent could enter. If you see light coming in, chances are a mice or other small creature can get in as well.
- Squirrels also like the warmth of an RV’s engine and can gain access to your RV from there. If you’ve been at the campsite a while be sure to check under the hood before departing.
- Dryer sheets also work well to deter mice and other small rodents.
Following these tips should make your trip a lot more memorable and a lot less annoying.
Happy RVing!
