Don’t make the mistake of parking your RV and forgetting about it until Spring! Winter Snow can seriously damage an RV. The weight of snow can dent or possible even collapse the roof of an RV! Another bad side effect of snow left on the roof of an RV is that the extra weight can open up seams in the roof and let water run down into the RV, causing structural and cosmetic damage.
Removing excess snow from the roof of your RV should be done from a portable ladder that can be moved around the RV as needed. It is best not to get on top of the RV while heavy snow is present because your added weight may be enough to cause you to fall through, and that would be very bad. It is very important to take all safety measures into consideration and remember that snow and ice are very dangerous. Lean a little too far to one side while cleaning and you could fall and hurt yourself.
Always use a plastic shovel since a metal shovel can damage roof. Use extra caution when shoveling around roof vents. The vents are more fragile in cold temperatures and are easily cracked. If you do damage a vent, be sure to replace as soon as possible. A cracked vent cap can allow melted snow and rain to enter the vent or even the roof and ceiling of the RV!
