If you plan on storing your RV for the winter, here are a few tips to help prevent problems when you are ready to travel in the spring.
- Unless your RV is in an indoor storage facilty, always remove the batteries and store them separately when you aren’t going to be using your RV for several months.
- Make sure your batteries are stored in a cool, dry place where they will not be exposed to temperatures below freezing.
- When removing the battery, always remove the negative terminal connection first, then remove the positive connection terminal. Sometimes it helps to label each battery cable for easier reconnection in the spring.
- Batteries should be checked corrosion. If you need to clean the batteries, a common way to clean is to use a half water, half baking soda mixture.
- Keep the batteries charged over the winter and be sure to test them monthy. If the charge drops below 80%, recharge them. Batteries that have lost their charge are more prone to freezing.
