February Mobile Home Maintenance Tips

Spring is right around the corner but there are still a few cold days ahead. Here are some things you can do to help keep your home in top shape during these last few weeks of winter.

Make sure all of your warranties and product manuals are organized and kept in a safe place. Mark your calendar to schedule recommended maintenance on your furnace and other HVAC equipment, as well as all appliances and tools.

Check your cabinet doors and drawers for loose knobs, pulls, and hinges. Tighten or replace as necessary. Use a lightweight machine oil to lubricate squeaky door hinges. Bedroom, bathroom and closet doors should also be checked. Locks can get loose over time and can easily be tightened with a screwdriver. Replace any locks that are no longer working properly.

Try to use automatic vents for your crawl spaces. Automatic vents open and close depending on temperature to help control condensation under the home and conserve energy.

Double-check insulation on pipes under the home and on the home’s exterior. Repair or replace as needed.

This is also a great time to make a room by room inventory of everything in your home. Be sure to take photos and file away in a safe place in the event of fire, flood, tornado or other natural disaster. Keeping this information will be important if you ever need to file an insurance claim.
